Warsaw Chopin Airport Handles 260+ Flights with Minimal Delays after Full EES Roll-out
Live data from aviation platform Avionio show Warsaw Chopin International Airport operating more than 260 arrivals on 11 October with average delays below 15 minutes despite the first full weekend of the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) being in force at all Polish external borders. As of 19:30 local time, long-haul services from San Francisco and Istanbul had landed early or on schedule, while peak-hour European arrivals were estimated within a ten-minute window. Border Guard officers stationed landside told local media that new biometric kiosks processed non-EU passport-holders in under 45 seconds, a significant improvement on the manual stamping that was the norm before 10 April. Airlines reported no abnormal queuing at security or immigration, easing fears that the combination of EES registration and holiday traffic would cause widespread disruption. For business-travel planners the smooth performance is an encouraging sign that Poland’s largest hub can absorb the extra compliance steps without compromising connection times. LOT Polish Airlines’ New York and Toronto flights departed within five minutes of schedule, and network carriers Lufthansa and Air France also maintained punctuality on feeder services critical for same-day long-haul connections. Airport management credited a six-month trial in which frequent-flier volunteers tested the kiosks and automated e-gates. A “task-force” lane remains available for diplomats and airline crews, while ground-handling agents have been instructed to shepherd tour groups to dedicated counters during peak waves. Travellers should still allow a buffer—especially those who must register biometrics for the first time—but the first real-world test suggests Poland’s aviation infrastructure is ready for the wider Schengen digitisation push culminating in ETIAS next year.
