Drivers on the Lausanne–Geneva stretch of Switzerland’s A1 motorway should brace for a full west-bound closure tonight, 12 October, from 22:15 to 04:45. The 2.2-km work zone between Bernex and Perly will see traffic diverted onto local roads while crews resurface the carriageway. Although scheduled outside main business hours, the works coincide with Geneva Airport’s late-evening arrival bank. Mobility managers of firms with staff landing after 22:00 should pre-book taxis that know the detour or arrange hotel stays near the airport. Heavy-goods vehicles will be held at upstream rest areas until the section re-opens. The closure is part of a wider maintenance blitz on Switzerland’s primary east-west corridor, which carries over 115,000 vehicles per day and is critical for just-in-time deliveries to Geneva’s pharma and watch-making clusters. Contractors are compressing the timetable into a single night to avoid multi-day lane reductions that would ripple into daytime commutes. According to the ADAC traffic bulletin, additional night-time blockages are planned near Basel (A2/A3) later this week. Fleet operators may want to re-sequence routes or shift loads to rail via the Basel-Muttenz intermodal hub to sidestep cumulative disruptions.
