An Garda Síochána has issued an operational notice ahead of the informal meeting of EU Telecommunications Ministers being held in Limerick on 12–13 October 2026 under Ireland’s EU Council Presidency. The police service warns of temporary traffic restrictions, rolling road closures and unmanned-aircraft (drone) flight bans that could disrupt business travellers transiting the Shannon–Limerick corridor. Delegations will arrive through Shannon, Cork and Dublin airports, but flight operations are expected to remain normal. The main impact will be on surface transport: Monday evening (18:30–19:45) will see escorted convoys from Limerick city to Adare Manor, while Tuesday morning (07:00–09:00) closures will affect the N18 (Limerick Tunnel), sections of the M7, Ballysimon Road and routes within the University of Limerick campus. Local access will be maintained, yet Gardaí urge motorists to allow extra time or use alternative routes. Of particular note to corporate travellers is the blanket prohibition on drone operations in designated Temporary Restricted Airspaces around conference venues. The Irish Aviation Authority will deploy detection technology and has signalled that breaches will trigger enforcement action. Companies planning aerial surveys, promotional filming or recreational drone flights in the mid-west during the conference should reschedule. Hotel capacity in Limerick and Adare is tight, with rates at city-centre properties up 40 percent week-on-week according to travel-management-company data. Mobility teams moving staff between Dublin and the west are advised to consider rail options—services on the Dublin–Limerick line are unaffected—or to route flights via Kerry Airport, which is outside the security perimeter. While the event concludes on Tuesday evening, Gardaí caution that operational plans may change for security reasons. Real-time updates will be posted to the @gardatraffic and @gardainfo accounts on X. Businesses with supply-chain movements through Shannon Foynes Port should also monitor notices, as Adare Manor routes overlap with freight corridors to the docks.
