A new step-by-step guide published on October 17 by policy portal Migration.hk details how non-resident frequent flyers can now complete e-Channel registration entirely through the "Go Hong Kong" mobile application. Under revised Immigration Department rules, eligible travelers aged 18 or above, holding an e-passport from one of 60 approved jurisdictions and at least two Hong Kong Airport arrivals within the past 24 months, may submit biometrics remotely and receive approval in as little as 24 hours. Previously, visitors had to appear in person at enrollment offices—a deterrent for time-pressed executives and conference delegates. The app now guides users through e-passport NFC reading, facial-recognition verification and e-signature capture before issuing a digital clearance token. Travel-management companies say the change could shave 10-15 minutes off average clearance times and make Hong Kong more competitive versus rival hubs such as Singapore’s Changi, which already allows remote registration for FAST lanes. Corporates with regional headquarters in the city are being urged to add the app to pre-trip checklists and communicate the eligibility criteria to visiting teams. The Immigration Department estimates several hundred thousand visitors could qualify immediately, potentially easing pressure on manual counters during trade fairs and peak holiday periods.
