The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) updated its Poland travel advice page on 17 October, alerting British nationals that crossings from Ukraine may be “subject to long delays” following Russian missile attacks. The bulletin notes that border processing can be suspended during air-raid alerts and advises travellers to monitor local media and carry sufficient water and fuel. The FCDO reiterates that only four road crossings—Dorohusk, Hrebenne, Korczowa and Medyka—are consistently open to private vehicles and urges travellers to use rail where possible. The guidance comes after several Britons reported spending more than ten hours in queues during the 16-17 October alert wave. Employers evacuating staff from Ukraine via Poland should book flexible hotel accommodation in Rzeszów or Przemyśl and build contingency days into project timelines. UK insurers typically cover additional accommodation costs if delays exceed six hours, but only when travellers followed official advice.
