Air Serbia to Restore Belgrade–Helsinki Flights After Six-Year Hiatus

Finavia announced today that Air Serbia will restart non-stop services between Belgrade and Helsinki Airport from 1 April 2027. The Serbian flag carrier plans three weekly rotations—Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays—using 112-seat Embraer E195 jets. The route, last operated in 2020, will re-establish direct connectivity between Finland and the Western Balkans. For multinationals with shared-service centres in Belgrade or manufacturing sites across Serbia and neighbouring countries, the link promises significant travel-time savings compared with current transfer options via Vienna, Warsaw or Frankfurt. Air Serbia’s Belgrade hub has grown into a midsize transfer platform, reaching 15 million passengers in 2025. Re-entry into Helsinki strengthens the airline’s north-south network strategy and offers Finnish travellers onward access to 20 regional destinations, including Skopje, Podgorica and Tivat, popular with Nordic holiday-home owners. The announcement also illustrates Helsinki Airport’s progress in rebuilding its short- and medium-haul map following the loss of overflight rights through Russian airspace. Finavia’s route-development team has prioritised Southeast Europe to diversify beyond traditional western-European demand and to capture rising student and tech-sector traffic in both directions. Ticket sales are expected to open in November 2026. Companies should review travel-policy agreements, as Air Serbia participates in major global distribution systems and offers corporate-contracting options, including through the SkyTeam Global Meetings product despite not being a SkyTeam member airline.
