Hong Kong Airlines said on Wednesday night that tomorrow’s round-trip flights HX658/HX659 between Hong Kong and Okinawa have been cancelled in anticipation of Super Typhoon Champi. The carrier also cautioned that services on the busy Hong Kong–Taipei sector may face delays or cancellations over the next three days, even though operations remain normal for now. Passengers holding confirmed seats can apply online for fee-free re-booking, rerouting or refunds through the airline’s “Special Ticketing Arrangement” portal. The company urged travellers to enrol in its SMS/e-mail flight-alert service at least four hours before departure and to check real-time status on its website before heading to the airport. The announcement is significant for corporate travellers because Hong Kong–Taipei is one of Asia’s highest-frequency business routes, while Okinawa has become a popular MICE and incentive destination for Hong Kong firms. Last-minute flight changes could disrupt meetings, site inspections and supply-chain visits planned around the weekend. Mobility teams are advised to revisit insurance cover for weather-related delays and ensure employees have flexible hotel bookings. The airline’s proactive waiver policy reflects lessons learned during recent typhoon seasons, when complaints about slow refunds damaged brand loyalty. Industry analysts note that rapid digital self-service tools are becoming standard expectations among frequent flyers, especially in the post-COVID era of hybrid work and tighter duty-of-care obligations.
