Brazil restores aviation-watchdog funding, averting certification backlog
Brazil’s Ministry of Port and Airports confirmed on 12 June that it has fully restored the R$25 million that had been cut from the 2026 budget of the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC). The sudden freeze, imposed at the end of May, forced the regulator to suspend non-essential audits, aircraft certifications and licensing exams for pilots and mechanics, raising industry fears that new aircraft deliveries and route launches planned for the third quarter would be delayed. With the release of funds — published in Friday’s edition of the Diário Oficial da União — ANAC immediately re-opened its examination schedule and re-activated on-site inspections at airlines, MRO shops and flight schools. The agency stressed that flight-safety critical tasks were never interrupted, but airlines had already begun warning corporate customers about possible slot and aircraft-change disruptions during the busy southern-winter holiday period. Infrastructure groups and trade bodies welcomed the decision. In a joint note, seven logistics associations said that weakening the regulator “in the middle of the largest airport-concession cycle in Brazilian history” undermined investor confidence. The restored budget also prevented the dismissal of dozens of outsourced inspectors whose contracts were due to lapse next week. For international mobility managers the episode is a reminder of Brazil’s regulatory volatility: certification delays can ground leased aircraft or postpone the opening of new corporate routes. Companies planning expatriate moves or project travel in Q3 should reconfirm seat availability once ANAC publishes its updated certification calendar on 15 June.

At the same time, securing the right travel documents remains critical. VisaHQ’s Brazil service (https://www.visahq.com/brazil/) offers fast, expert assistance with visas, residence permits and supporting paperwork for crew, assignees and short-term business travelers, helping organizations avoid additional hurdles when flight schedules finally stabilize.

In parallel, the National Waterway Transport Agency (ANTAQ) also had R$15 million reinstated, allowing it to resume port-infrastructure inspections that underpin Brazil’s export corridors, but the immediate impact on air transport is the more acute concern for global-mobility planners.
