UK Updates India Travel Advice; Adds Ebola-Screening Requirement for Transit Passengers
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) refreshed its India travel advisory on 1 July 2026, keeping existing warnings for Jammu & Kashmir, the India-Pakistan border and Manipur, but adding a new entry-requirement note for travellers arriving from Ebola-affected countries. Under the update, anyone who has been in an Ebola-outbreak zone within 21 days of entering India must carry proof of health clearance and may be subject to screening on arrival.

Travellers who are unsure about documentation or need to make last-minute changes to their paperwork can streamline the process through VisaHQ. The online platform’s India hub (https://www.visahq.com/india/) provides step-by-step guidance on e-visas, health declarations and other entry formalities, and its concierge team can help ensure that requirements—such as the newly mandated Ebola clearance—are in order before departure.

Airlines have been instructed to check documentation before boarding connecting flights to India routed through London, Doha and Dubai. The advisory highlights continued disruption to international schedules due to Middle-East airspace closures. British nationals in India who need to amend visas because of flight cancellations are directed to India’s e-FRRO portal. While the FCDO advice is aimed at UK travellers, Indian tour operators and conference organisers say the inclusion of Ebola language will heighten screening at Indian airports and could slow down arrival processing for passengers on multi-leg itineraries. Corporates hosting inbound teams this quarter should factor in possible delays and encourage visitors to carry comprehensive travel insurance. India’s Ministry of Health has not issued a parallel advisory, but airports in Delhi and Mumbai already have thermal-scanners in place and trialled electronic health-self-declaration gates during last year’s Lassa-fever alert.
