Parliamentary Panel Inspects Noida International Airport, Flags Immigration and Security Readiness
A Lok Sabha Housing Committee delegation led by MP Dr Mahesh Sharma visited the under-construction Noida International Airport (NIA) on 3 July 2026 to assess progress and, crucially, the preparedness of border-management agencies that will operate India’s newest global gateway. Officials from the Airports Authority of India, Bureau of Immigration (BoI), Bureau of Civil Aviation Security and Central Industrial Security Force briefed lawmakers on e-gates, automated passport-control kiosks and dedicated fast-track lanes for diplomats and persons with disabilities.

For international travelers already mapping their journeys through the forthcoming hub, visa facilitation service VisaHQ can simplify the paperwork well before they arrive at NIA. Its India portal offers real-time guidance on tourist and business e-visas, diplomatic clearances, and even group applications, allowing users to submit documents online and track approvals—perfectly complementing the airport’s planned single-token biometric process.

The airport, scheduled to open Phase 1 in March 2027, will be India’s first to use a single-token biometric journey from curb to gate, integrating Digi Yatra facial recognition with immigration databases. Committee members asked for assurance that the BoI will have a permanent recruitment pipeline to avoid the staffing crunch seen at Delhi IGI in late-2025. They also pushed for a “green channel” for foreign MRO engineers and cargo handlers to expedite aircraft turnaround times, citing Singapore’s Changi as a benchmark. From an expatriate-management lens, NIA’s emergence south-east of Delhi could shorten commute times for Noida and Greater-Noida-based multinationals and relieve slot congestion at IGI. Relocation firms expect rental demand in Yamuna Expressway corridor to spike once the first international flights are announced. The committee’s field visit signals growing parliamentary oversight of large infrastructure projects with cross-border implications. Weekly progress reports will now be tabled in Lok Sabha, keeping pressure on contractors to meet timelines and on border agencies to finish system integration tests by Q4 2026.
