Dubai Customs and Emirates SkyCargo Build Emergency ‘Logistics Bridge’ to Keep GCC Supply Chains Moving
With regional shipping lanes under strain, Dubai Customs has teamed up with Emirates SkyCargo to create an integrated air-road ‘logistics bridge’ that moved 2,636 tonnes of food, pharmaceuticals and general goods across the Gulf between January and May 2026. The initiative, revealed 21 hours ago by the Dubai Government Media Office, boosted monthly cleared imports at DXB Cargo Village and DWC Air Cargo Centre by 82 per cent. Key to the effort were the Green Corridor and Shahin programmes, which prioritise perishable and critical shipments through pre-clearance and smart-inspection lanes. Truck convoys then fanned out across the GCC, completing 529 cross-border trips without missing a delivery-window despite heightened security checks.

For businesses dispatching cargo or staff across the Gulf, visa formalities can be just as time-sensitive as the freight itself. VisaHQ’s UAE portal streamlines applications for work, business and transit visas across the region, providing quick online processing and real-time tracking so logistics teams can synchronise personnel movements with the corridor’s guaranteed slots.

For corporates reliant on just-in-time spares and time-critical pharmaceuticals, the bridge offers a back-up blueprint in case of further maritime disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. Mobility managers moving employees’ household goods can also piggy-back on the corridor’s guaranteed time-slots, reducing relocation downtime. Dubai Customs’ Director-General Dr Abdulla Busenad said the model will be permanent and dovetails with Dubai Economic Agenda D33 goals to position the emirate as “an indestructible gateway” for global trade. Expect similar bridges to emerge along Etihad Rail freight spurs next year, giving multinationals multiple modal choices for supply-chain resilience.
