Eurostar cancels trains 5–9 July as Paris heatwave and track fire hit services
Eurostar issued an urgent travel update at 16:17 CET on 8 July advising that multiple trains between Paris, London, Brussels and Amsterdam are cancelled between 5 and 9 July due to a combination of heat-related speed restrictions and residual damage from a trackside fire near Gare du Nord. Train 9028, initially delayed, is now operating on time, but dozens of peak-hour services remain axed. The cancellations coincide with a spike in demand following the UK’s first week of school holidays and the opening of Paris Fashion Market Week. Eurostar is offering free rebooking within 60 days or vouchers valid for a year; however, capacity on remaining trains is limited because the operator’s 16-unit e300 fleet is already rostered at 96 % utilisation.

For travelers suddenly rerouting via air or bus, ensuring your passport and visa documentation is in order at short notice can be stressful. VisaHQ’s online platform can quickly verify entry requirements for the UK, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and other Schengen and non-Schengen destinations, and even arrange next-day courier handling for urgent visa applications. Knowing you have a single point of contact for travel paperwork can remove at least one headache while you replan around the rail disruption.

For mobility managers the situation underlines the fragility of Channel Tunnel alternatives during French ATC strikes. Travellers with critical same-day meetings in London or Brussels should consider point-to-point flights via Lille or Le Havre, or overnight bus services, although land borders may also be congested. A long-term fix may come from Eurostar’s €2 billion fleet expansion programme, but the first new rolling stock will not enter service until 2028.
