An Garda Síochána has issued detailed traffic and security guidance ahead of the informal meeting of EU Competitiveness Ministers taking place at Dublin Castle on 9-10 July 2026. In a press release posted overnight, the force confirmed that Castle Street, Ship Street Little and Ship Street Great are already closed to vehicles and pedestrians and will remain so until the end of the Irish EU Presidency on 31 December 2026. Additional rolling motorcycle escorts will affect routes between Dublin Airport and multiple city-centre venues from Thursday afternoon. Delegations from all 27 member states will fly into Dublin Airport on Thursday morning and depart late Friday, but the airport itself is expected to operate normally. However, Garda Traffic Bureau warns of short-notice stoppages on Dame Street, Christchurch Place and the quays as ministers are shuttled between Dublin Castle, the Guinness Storehouse, and nearby hotels. Drone operators are also put on notice: temporary restricted airspace has been declared, and the Irish Aviation Authority will deploy detection equipment around the venues. The logistical operation underscores the scale of Ireland’s six-month EU Presidency, which began on 1 July. Business travellers, tour operators and corporate limousine providers are advised to build in at least 45 minutes of buffer time for cross-city transfers during the two-day summit, particularly between 16:00-19:00 on Thursday and 08:00-09:30 on Friday. Delivery companies servicing offices in Dublin 8 are being asked to schedule outside those windows. For global-mobility teams, the main takeaway is that while international flights will not be curtailed, last-mile ground transport could face intermittent delays. Employers with VIP visitors or relocating staff should share Garda maps, remind travellers to carry photo ID for checkpoints, and caution against recreational drone use anywhere near the city centre this week. Real-time updates will be pushed through the @gardatraffic account on X, and the Garda website hosts a dedicated FAQ for the Presidency period.
