Doors opened today (15 July 2026) on the 36th Hong Kong Book Fair at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Running until 21 July, the event is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of attendees—including publishers, authors and book lovers from mainland China, Taiwan, Southeast Asia and beyond—marking one of the territory’s largest post-pandemic cultural gatherings. To cope with the influx, the Immigration Department has activated additional e-Channel lanes at Wan Chai ferry terminals and the nearby Hung Hom rail terminus, while the Transport Department is running special cross-harbour bus services. The Hong Kong Tourism Board is promoting a “Cultural Legacy | Joyful Journeys” campaign that bundles fair tickets with hotel discounts aimed at regional visitors on short-stay itineraries. For corporates, the fair coincides with multiple business-to-business publishing conferences and intellectual-property seminars, offering opportunities for rights acquisition and networking. Companies sending delegates should ensure hotel bookings are secured early, as room occupancy in the Wan Chai and Admiralty districts is forecast to exceed 90 % during peak fair days. Event organisers have clarified that same-day re-entry is permitted after 7 pm on 17–19 July for holders of full-price tickets dated 15–16 July, allowing business visitors to schedule external meetings without losing fair access. Security screening remains standard Halls procedure, and bags larger than 30 x 40 cm are subject to search.
