Bus Éireann issued a wide-ranging service update on 17 July warning of diversions and stop closures that will affect passengers travelling to and from Dublin Airport over the weekend of 18-19 July. Route 2, which links Wexford, Arklow and Dublin Airport, will skip Arklow Main Street and Tourist Office stops during the Seabreeze Festival, while routes 109 and 109X serving the airport from Kells face delays linked to M3 motorway night closures later in the month. Additional disruption is forecast around Croke Park on 19 July for the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final, impacting airport-bound routes 101, 109, 109B, 109X and 111 as city-centre traffic is rerouted. Passengers are advised to allow extra time and monitor live journey planners. For international travellers relying on coach connections instead of taxis or rental cars, missed stops can translate into missed check-in windows—particularly given the airport’s new 90-minute security-screening advisory during peak summer weekends. Corporates with cost-containment policies encouraging public transport are already sending push notifications to travellers arriving from Stansted and Amsterdam flights on Saturday evening. The update also lists roadworks on the R125 affecting route 109A from 13–24 July and continuing N11 resurfacing on route 131 until end-of-business 17 July. While most diversions offer alternative stops within walking distance, luggage-laden travellers or those with reduced mobility may need to pre-book Wheelchair Accessible Taxi (WAT) services, availability of which remains tight after midnight departures. Bus Éireann says it regrets the inconvenience but argues that publishing consolidated service impacts ahead of Ireland’s festival season allows passengers—and employers—time to adjust itineraries.
