Germany’s Auswärtiges Amt refreshed its travel and safety notice for Czechia on 18 July 2026. Besides routine weather warnings, the ministry highlights the ongoing German police controls at the DE-CZ land border and advises travellers to carry full ID and vehicle documents. The advisory also draws attention to Czech legislation that restricts the sale and public use of fireworks and other pyrotechnics. In force since December 2025, the law imposes steep on-the-spot fines for unauthorised displays—an issue that has already ensnared German tourists attending corporate New Year events in Prague. Business travellers driving rental cars into Czechia should be ready for spot inspections that may include checks for unpaid German traffic fines; under bilateral enforcement rules, police can immobilise vehicles until outstanding penalties are settled. Employers running cross-border team-building events or incentive trips are urged to brief participants on both the ID requirements at temporary border posts and the firework restrictions, especially ahead of the autumn conference season.
