The emergency measure, published a few hours later on the Border Guard’s public portal, follows intelligence assessments that the crossings could become conduits for “state-sponsored migration pressure and hybrid provocations.” All movements in both directions have been halted until further notice; only the larger freight hubs at Kuźnica, Bobrowniki and the rail terminal at Terespol remain open for commercial flows. Background tensions have been high along Poland’s eastern flank since mid-2025, when Minsk was first accused of facilitating irregular crossings. Warsaw has responded with a layered strategy—physical barriers, reinforced patrols and a rolling programme of checkpoint closures that first hit Bobrowniki (2025) and Białowieża (2026). With Połowce and Gronowo now off-line, the number of operational road crossings into Belarus is down to one, creating a bottleneck that will reverberate across regional supply chains. For logistics managers the practical impact is immediate: trucks must detour up to 200 km north to Kuźnica or south-west to Koroszczyn/Kukuryki (the main EU customs corridor into Belarus). Forwarders estimate that a Warsaw–Minsk round-trip now incurs an extra 8-10 hours’ driving time and €350-€450 in additional fuel and toll costs. Passenger cars and buses face similar diversions, while the Polish tourist board is advising travellers to use scheduled rail services via Terespol or flights to Minsk via Vilnius. Corporate mobility teams should update travellers’ security briefs. The closure also affects posted workers and technicians shuttling between Polish manufacturing sites and Belarusian suppliers: work-permit holders will need to present alternative itineraries at Schengen external borders. EU citizens transiting to Russia’s Kaliningrad enclave must now enter via Lithuania, where passport control queues have already lengthened. Diplomatically, the move underscores Warsaw’s hard-line stance ahead of an extraordinary EU Interior Council next week, where member states will debate coordinated responses to “instrumentalised migration.” Businesses should anticipate that the suspension could last well beyond the summer peak and plan inventory buffers accordingly.
