Multinational companies with staff straddling the border are reviewing tele-work policies and advising employees to budget extra time for commutes until mid-August, when the cantonal authorities expect to restore normal traffic flows. The update is a reminder that Switzerland, though a Schengen member, can temporarily re-activate internal border controls for security events—an increasingly common practice across Europe.
