Nationwide Transport Strike Calendar Updated: Key Disruptions Flagged for Autumn 2026

The Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT) has published the latest edition of its official strike calendar, dated 28 July 2026. The interactive database, consulted daily by airlines, rail operators and multinational travel‐risk teams, now lists more than 40 industrial actions that could affect air, rail, maritime and local public transport services between late August and October. Among the most critical entries are a 24-hour nationwide rail and maritime strike set for 25–26 September, a 12-hour walk-out of baggage-handling staff at Rome-Fiumicino scheduled for 9 August, and staggered four-hour stoppages by ENAV air-traffic controllers on 6 and 20 October. The calendar also flags regional bus and tram strikes in Lombardy (5 September) and Sicily (19 September), giving corporate mobility managers unprecedented lead-time to activate continuity plans. Under Italy’s “Law 146/1990” on essential-services strikes, operators must publish lists of guaranteed ‘minimum‐service’ flights and trains at least 72 hours in advance. However, the MIT’s consolidated calendar remains the only public tool that aggregates every proclamation filed by the dozens of unions active in the transport sector, from major confederations such as CGIL-CISL-UIL to autonomous groups like CUB Trasporti. Business-travel analysts say the early warning is vital as Italy heads into its busiest corporate-meeting season. “Autumn is when international fairs in Milan and Bologna overlap with harvest-related travel in the agri-food industry,” notes Paola Gentili, mobility lead at HR consultancy Move2Italy. “Knowing exactly when a ground‐handling strike may hit Malpensa versus Fiumicino lets us switch travellers to rail or reroute freight days ahead.” Practical advice from travel-risk providers includes booking fully flexible fares, allowing at least six hours’ buffer on connection days, and monitoring airport and rail-operator social channels for the legally mandated ‘fasce di garanzia’ (protected time-bands, typically 07:00–10:00 and 18:00–21:00) during which a core skeleton service must run. Companies with posted or rotating staff in Italy are urged to circulate the calendar via internal portals so employees can adjust itineraries well before ticket deadlines expire.
