With Ireland’s August bank-holiday weekend approaching, Transport for Ireland (TFI) on 31 July released a consolidated bulletin outlining service alterations across rail, tram and bus networks from 1 to 3 August 2026. The headline change is a full closure of the Luas Red Line between Red Cow and the Tallaght/Saggart branches for engineering works, with a replacement bus shuttle serving all intermediate stops. Iarnród Éireann will simultaneously undertake track renewals between Limerick Junction and Charleville, leading to bus substitution on segments of Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Galway and Waterford inter-city services. Meanwhile, Dublin Bus and Go-Ahead Ireland will operate Sunday schedules on Monday 3 August, and Bus Éireann Expressway routes will see selected early-morning cancellations. TFI says the coordination of works over the long weekend minimises weekday commuter disruption and allows maintenance teams uninterrupted track access. Nevertheless, the changes will affect business travellers flying in for Monday-morning meetings and holiday-makers returning from short breaks. Passengers are urged to consult the Journey Planner and to pre-book rail tickets, as replacement coaches have limited capacity for large luggage. Airports are also bracing for a surge: Dublin Airport expects 420,000 passengers between Friday and Monday, up 6 % year-on-year. Airport operator DAA is advising travellers to arrive at least 2½ hours before short-haul departures and to factor in potential delays on the M1 and Port Tunnel, where roadworks are continuing overnight. For mobility managers, the key recommendation is to brief employees on the Luas closure and to encourage remote working on 2–3 August where feasible. Companies hosting conferences in Dublin’s city centre should arrange private transfers or clarify walking routes from Heuston Station to venues in the IFSC and Docklands.
