Signed on 16 September at Arabian Travel Market, the memorandum of understanding between Emirates Airline and Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) introduces discounted student fares, extra baggage allowances and flexible rebooking for learners attending KHDA-regulated universities. The perks align with Dubai’s Education 33 strategy to double the share of foreign students by 2033. Emirates will also join KHDA on Study Dubai roadshows in Africa, South Asia and Europe, using its 140-destination network to position the emirate as a “City of Students.” Faculty will gain access to similar concessions under a new Emirates Academic Programme, further smoothing academic mobility. For higher-education institutions in Dubai’s free zones, the travel incentives lower the total cost of attendance—a key metric parents weigh against rival hubs such as Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Mobility specialists should note that the offer dovetails with the five-year student residence visa and pathways to Golden Visas for high achievers, making Dubai more competitive in the global talent race. Universities are expected to incorporate the fare benefits into scholarship packages, while corporate sponsors may leverage them for graduate-training rotations. Travel managers should flag the new baggage allowance (up to 10 kg extra) when booking student interns or visiting professors.
