Etihad Airways has extended its popular Abu Dhabi Stopover programme to include hotel stays in Al Ain, giving transit passengers a choice between downtown Abu Dhabi and the UAE’s heritage city. Bookings made on etihad.com now unlock one or two complimentary hotel nights plus free shuttle transfers between Zayed International Airport and Al Ain. The offer dovetails with Al Ain’s designation as Capital of Arab Tourism 2026 and is backed by the Department of Culture and Tourism—Abu Dhabi. Guests who opt into the stopover also receive automatic medical-travel insurance, introduced by Etihad in June, covering up to 15 days without application. For globally mobile employees routed through Abu Dhabi, the stopover provides a low-cost decompression option on ultra-long-haul itineraries—particularly valuable for duty-of-care compliance. Travel buyers can package the free night with discounted attraction passes via Etihad’s ‘Stopover Pass’, trimming per-diem expenditure while boosting traveller satisfaction scores. Al Ain’s inclusion expands capacity in a market where Abu Dhabi city hotels run high occupancy during major events. It also supports Etihad’s hub-and-spoke strategy by enticing transfer traffic that might otherwise connect via Doha or Istanbul. The airline reported strong take-up of the original scheme launched in 2024, hinting that further regional stopover tie-ins could follow as it chases its 30-million-passenger target for 2027.
