Traficom schedules Saturday maintenance outage; online licence services offline 19 September 08:00–13:00
Finland’s Transport and Communications Agency Traficom issued a notice at 08:00 on 18 September informing customers that several My e-Services modules will be unavailable this Saturday, 19 September, from 08:00 to 13:00 EET. The downtime covers digital driving-licence renewals, professional driver-card applications and the maritime certificate endorsement portal. Although a routine IT maintenance window, the five-hour closure could trip up last-minute business travellers and shipping companies that rely on same-day electronic licence issuance. Under Finnish rules, commercial HGV and coach drivers must carry a valid smart tachograph card, and seafarers need an endorsed STCW certificate before boarding. During the outage, Traficom advises applicants to use physical service points, but queues at Helsinki Pasila and Turku Linnankatu branches already exceed 45 minutes at peak times. Corporate mobility managers should audit upcoming travel to ensure no time-critical renewals fall inside the blackout. Traficom will not waive expedited-processing fees for applications submitted after services resume, and penalties for operating without a valid card remain in force. Employers sponsoring residence-based driver-licence exchanges for foreign staff are urged to submit documents by 16:00 EET on Friday to guarantee same-day backend validation. Traficom says the upgrade lays the groundwork for migrating transport licences to Finland’s new national Digital Identity Wallet, slated for pilot launch in December. Future outages are expected in October as the agency implements EU Smart Tachograph Phase 2 parameters. The agency will post a confirmation once services are live; users can also subscribe to SMS alerts. Until then, travellers should carry physical credentials and allow buffer time for any in-person visits.
