The Italian Embassy in Ulaanbaatar has activated a new, category-specific appointment system for long-stay (type D) study visas. The 24 September notice targets applicants who missed a previous slot, had an earlier refusal, or fall outside the standard Universitaly workflow. Under the pilot, students validate their category online before gaining access to priority calendars. The embassy says this will unclog the general Prenot@Mi portal, whose wait-time for autumn-semester slots recently exceeded six weeks. Universities that sponsor incoming students welcomed the move: the University of Bologna’s Asia desk notes that 11 % of its Mongolian admits lost enrolment this year because their visa interview occurred after the registration deadline. Practically, mobility managers should advise affected students to re-check eligibility and gather the new evidence fields (digital admission letter, remote-test certificate, Universitaly clearance). Failure to book in the correct category may lead to automatic cancellation.
