Migration Tasmania has published the results of its 24 September 2026 invitation round, the first since allocations for the 2026-27 program year were confirmed. A total of 62 Registrations of Interest (ROIs) were invited: 38 for the Subclass 190 Skilled-Nominated visa and 24 for the Subclass 491 Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa. The lowest ROI scores invited were 352 (190) and 72 (491) under Tasmania’s internal ranking system, not to be confused with the federal SkillSelect points test. After the round, 905 ROIs remain in the 190 pool and 593 in the 491 pool, highlighting intense competition for the island state’s 1,700 nomination places. Notably, more than half of the 190 invitations were classified “Gold”, indicating candidates with attributes such as employment in a priority occupation, PhD studies or long-term residence in Tasmania. No Gold invitations were issued for the 491 category this round, reflecting the government’s focus on retaining high-skill candidates permanently. Candidates receiving an invitation have 28 days to lodge a full nomination application with supporting evidence. State approval remains a prerequisite before the Department of Home Affairs will consider the visa itself. Applicants still waiting in the pool are encouraged to update ROIs to reflect any new qualifications, employment or English-language results before the next weekly selection. For employers, the data offers insight into Tasmania’s competitive thresholds and can inform recruitment strategies for regional operations. Mobility advisers should remind clients that state nomination criteria differ markedly between jurisdictions and may shift with each allocation update.
