Kazakhstan’s low-cost carrier FlyArystan inaugurated flights between Almaty and Chongqing on 23 September, with the Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan announcing the development a day later. The Airbus A320neo service operates every Wednesday and Saturday, opening a direct link between Central Asia’s largest financial centre and western China’s manufacturing hub. The route supports burgeoning trade in machinery, agriculture and e-commerce, sectors that saw Kazakhstan–China bilateral trade grow 31 per cent in H1 2026. For mobility managers, the flight offers a cost-effective option compared with traditional routings via Ürümqi or Beijing, cutting journey times by up to four hours. Kazakh citizens already enjoy 14-day visa-free entry to China, while Chinese business travellers can obtain streamlined electronic visas for Kazakhstan under a bilateral agreement signed in May. The new connection is expected to boost corporate travel tied to China’s West Triangle Economic Zone and Kazakhstan’s Participation in the Belt and Road Initiative. Introductory fares start at US$169 one way, but travellers should note FlyArystan’s strict cabin-baggage limits. Companies moving project teams should consider the airline’s group-booking portal, which offers flexibility on name changes for a surcharge.
