Poland issues rare Air-Threat RCB Alert for Lublin and Subcarpathian regions
Poland’s Government Security Centre (RCB) pushed an emergency cell-broadcast alert at 15:30 local time on 4 October 2026 after Russian cruise-missile raids crossed Ukrainian airspace close to the Polish frontier. The warning covered 54 counties of Lublin and Subcarpathian voivodeships and advised residents and travellers to “expect further messages” while Polish F-16s patrolled the border. Although the alert was cancelled at 16:00, the 30-minute window saw three temporary closures of the busy Dorohusk and Zosin road crossings with Ukraine and a ground-stop for light aviation within a 50-km strip of airspace. Bus operators such as FlixBus and Leo Express reported delays of up to two hours as traffic was halted and convoys re-routed through safer corridors via Radymno-Krakowiec. Freight forwarders moving just-in-time components from the Poznań auto cluster to Ukrainian factories were warned by insurers that force-majeure clauses could apply if further closures occur this week. The episode underlines how quickly the war in Ukraine can disrupt corporate mobility in Poland’s east. Employers with assignees in Lublin, Rzeszów or near-border logistics parks should review shelter-in-place protocols and make sure staff phones are registered with Poland’s mandatory CMAS warning system. Global mobility managers are also advised to monitor NOTAMs: Warsaw’s Flight Information Region now routinely activates “MIL EXER” airspace reservations when Polish jets scramble, triggering minor rerouting for LOT and Wizz Air flights from the south-east. While the Polish–Ukrainian frontier remains open, companies should expect sporadic stoppages and have contingency plans for perishable cargo. The Ministry of Interior confirmed that EU Temporary Protection holders re-entering Poland will not lose their status if caught on the Ukrainian side during a sudden closure, but they must re-present biometric documentation when the post re-opens. With autumn missile activity historically peaking in October–November, experts forecast more frequent RCB alerts. Businesses relocating talent to Poland’s aviation and IT hubs are urged to include crisis-communication clauses and safe-room guidance in welcome packs.
