Prague Issues Travel Advisory Ahead of Signal Festival: Expect Road Closures and Heavy Passenger Flows
With the popular Signal Festival lighting up the Czech capital from 15 to 18 October, the Prague City Council published a transport advisory on Monday, 12 October 2026, urging residents and visitors to avoid driving into the centre and the Dejvice district during evening hours. The city expects tens of thousands of spectators to converge on 17 outdoor installations, many of them clustered around narrow medieval streets that routinely clog during large events. Authorities recommend that festival-goers rely on metro lines A and B, disembarking at Staroměstská for the Old Town route and Dejvická for the Dejvice leg. Extra staff will be deployed to manage pedestrian traffic, and temporary barriers will channel crowds away from tram tracks on Evropská Street—an accident hotspot identified in last year’s post-event safety audit. For business travellers the advisory matters because the festival overlaps with several trade fairs at Prague Congress Centre and with the Monday morning rush on 19 October, when many delegates depart. Travel-management companies are warning clients to pad road-to-airport journey times by at least 30 minutes between 18:00 and 23:00, and some hotels in the Old Town have already switched to luggage-cart transfers as taxis face detours. Ride-hailing firms Bolt and Uber confirm they will implement dynamic-pricing caps, while Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) will run additional night trams and open a temporary park-and-ride facility at Opatov. Corporate mobility teams should brief assignees and short-term visitors on using prepaid Litacka tickets to skip vending-machine queues. Although primarily a cultural event, Signal Festival’s footprint illustrates the interconnected nature of urban tourism and corporate mobility. The city’s proactive communication—published simultaneously in Czech and English—demonstrates how local authorities can mitigate disruption when visitor volumes rebound to pre-pandemic levels.
