37th U.S. deportation charter of 2026 brings dozens of Brazilians back to Belo Horizonte
An Eastern Airlines Boeing 767-300 (registration N700KW) is due to touch down at Belo Horizonte/Confins tonight carrying another group of Brazilian citizens deported from the United States. The charter—flight EAL-8272—departed Alexandria, Louisiana this morning, is refuelling in Bogotá, and is scheduled to arrive around 20:00 local time. According to specialist outlet AEROIN, it is the 37th deportation flight from the U.S. to Brazil so far in 2026, repatriating more than 2,400 people this year alone. Most passengers on previous flights have been men aged 30-39 who entered the U.S. without legal status or overstayed visas. Upon arrival, deportees are received by an inter-ministerial task-force led by Brazil’s Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship. A reception centre inside Confins Airport offers medical screening, psychological assistance, hygiene kits, onward transport and documentation advice. Those needing extended support are transferred to a nearby hotel contracted by the federal government under the “Aqui é Brasil” reintegration programme. The growing cadence of charter deportations follows the Biden Administration’s stricter enforcement of Title 8 removal procedures after the end of Title 42 pandemic measures. Brazil cooperates by issuing emergency travel documents and accepting weekly planeloads, typically alternating between Confins, Fortaleza and Manaus. Human-rights NGOs say the high volume underscores the need for pre-departure counselling and for Brazilian consulates in the U.S. to expand legal-aid capacity. For global-mobility managers, the trend has two immediate implications. First, employees posted to the U.S. on short-term assignments must keep status and I-94 validity in strict order; overstay now carries a higher risk of expedited removal and ban. Second, companies that relocate staff back to Brazil should be aware of reception facilities and government programmes that can assist with health and documentation on arrival. Looking ahead, Brasilia is negotiating with Washington for more advance notice of deportee lists and exploring alternatives such as staggered commercial-flight returns to reduce logistical pressure on Confins. Until any policy shift occurs, mobility stakeholders should monitor weekly DHS charter schedules and advise Brazilian nationals in the U.S. of the heightened enforcement environment.
