Autostrade per l’Italia has announced that the north-bound carriageway of the A1 Milan–Naples will close between Santa Maria Capua Vetere and Capua from 21:00 on 19 October until 06:00 on 20 October. The shutdown, agreed with public-security authorities, provides a safe parking area for a rolling protest by road-freight operators demanding lower tolls and faster permit renewals for non-EU drivers. All heavy-goods vehicles must exit at Santa Maria Capua Vetere and follow provincial roads SP4 and SP333 before re-entering the motorway at Capua. Variable-message signs, national radio and the Autostrade mobile app will provide live updates. Estimated detour time is 25–30 minutes, but longer queues are likely if traffic peaks coincide with the demonstration. Although domestic, the disruption affects a critical north–south corridor used by multinational supply chains feeding Rome’s retail network and the Port of Naples. Companies moving time-sensitive goods—or shuttling technicians between southern aerospace sites and headquarters near Turin—should reschedule departures or reroute via the A16 and A30. Corporate travel managers moving assignees by road between Rome and Naples overnight should budget extra journey time or shift to high-speed rail (Trenitalia’s last evening service departs Naples at 21:31). Travellers connecting to early-morning flights from Rome Fiumicino may prefer hotel accommodation near the airport. The protest underscores an emerging mobility risk: domestic labour disputes that, while not crossing international frontiers, can still derail expatriate assignments and cargo flows. Monitoring local transport bulletins—not just national strike calendars—remains essential.
