Lapland’s airports are heading for their busiest winter on record after airport operator Finavia confirmed the final list of scheduled routes for the 2026-27 season. According to a Time Out Nordic report published on 20 October, no fewer than ten new European city pairs will debut between late October and March, giving business and leisure travellers unprecedented point-to-point access to Finland’s Arctic region. Rovaniemi remains the star, with 37 winter routes – including new services from London Gatwick, Newcastle, Munich and Prague. Kittilä adds four fresh links (Amsterdam, Brussels, Liverpool and London Luton), while Ivalo gains a Discover Airlines flight from Munich. Even smaller Kuusamo and Kemi-Tornio secure new international capacity, underscoring carriers’ confidence that northern Finland’s tourism and meetings industry will keep growing despite global economic headwinds. For corporate-mobility planners the expansion changes the calculus of getting teams to remote mining, energy and tech sites in Lapland. Direct flights from hubs such as Brussels and Amsterdam cut total journey times by up to four hours compared with the traditional Helsinki connection, reducing overnight layovers and carbon footprints. Early-morning slots also allow same-day client meetings – attractive for project-based assignments and incentive travel groups. Finavia is hedging against volatility by spreading risk across full-service and low-cost carriers. Should demand soften, frequencies (rather than entire routes) can be trimmed without leaving destinations unserved. Companies booking group travel are nevertheless advised to lock in inventory early; Rovaniemi hotel capacity during peak Aurora-watching weeks is already over 80 % sold, according to local tourism boards. The aviation uplift dovetails with the Finnish government’s push to diversify regional economies and to test the country’s new digital Entry/Exit System (EES) kiosks in high-volume winter settings. Travellers arriving on the inaugural flights will be among the first to use the fully operational EES, giving employers a real-world view of the EU’s biometric border-processing times ahead of the broader Summer-2027 tourism season.
