In an evening social-media post on 23 October, Hong Kong’s Immigration Department reminded adults and children aged 7–17 to complete e-Channel registration before travelling via the new Huanggang Port. The agency noted that unregistered travellers would be diverted to manual counters, prolonging queues. Parents can enrol minors through the “Hong Kong e-Channel” mobile app or at self-service kiosks located at the port. The push follows complaints during the Chung Yeung holiday when families unfamiliar with the process waited up to one hour for clearance. For frequent cross-border employees on dependent visas, registering family members ensures they can accompany the principal worker through the faster automated lanes, making school runs and weekend visits to Shenzhen smoother. The department also reminded travellers to carry physical ID documents even after successful biometric registration—a requirement often overlooked by tech-savvy users who assume the system is fully paperless. Companies running commuter shuttles across the boundary are advised to circulate the registration link and consider organising on-site sign-up sessions to reduce future congestion.
