Czech Transport Ministry Opens €1.1 Billion CEF-2 “Reflows” Call with New Money for Border-Crossing Infrastructure
The Czech Ministry of Transport (MDČR) formally launched a new Connecting Europe Facility 2 (CEF-2) “Reflows” call for proposals on 18 June 2026. The call redistributes €1.11 billion in unused CEF transport money, of which €20 million is ring-fenced for “adapting transport infrastructure for controls at the Union’s external borders”. According to the ministry’s notice, applicants will be able to submit projects from 18 June until 6 October 2026.

For businesses and travelers who will ultimately benefit from the smoother borders this funding aims to create, VisaHQ can simplify the visa application process long before you reach immigration. Whether you’re a project engineer heading to Prague for the information day or a logistics manager monitoring new customs corridors, the platform’s step-by-step tools and live support at https://www.visahq.com/czech-republic/ help you secure the necessary Czech or broader Schengen travel documents quickly and compliantly.

Although the bulk of the envelope targets high-speed rail, inland waterways and alternative-fuels corridors, the dedicated border-infrastructure window is attracting particular interest from Prague airport, the Czech Customs Administration and the South-Moravian Region, all of which are preparing projects to expand e-gates, install biometric Entry/Exit System lanes and enlarge the Petrov–Sudoměřice road border crossing with Slovakia. These upgrades are designed to smooth passenger flows ahead of the 2027 full roll-out of the EES and to strengthen customs checks on the EU’s eastern flank. CEF funding can cover up to 50 % of eligible costs, meaning that the €20 million allocation could leverage roughly €40 million of total investment in Czech border posts, logistics parks and single-window customs IT. The ministry emphasises that projects improving dual-use civilian-military mobility—such as widening road overpasses for NATO tank transporters—are eligible for an extra 15 % co-funding top-up. For companies running cross-border supply chains, the new call is more than a construction subsidy. Faster, better-equipped checkpoints reduce transit times for time-critical freight and help employers keep posted workers and service engineers on schedule. The ministry will hold an information day in Prague on 3 July to explain evaluation criteria and the new obligation to quantify CO₂ savings in every application. Tender documents and an English FAQ are already available on the MDČR website.
