Prague Re-Introduces 70 % Public-Transport Discount for Residents on New ‘Super-Benefit’ Welfare Scheme
Prague City Hall has confirmed that, from 1 August 2026, people who receive the national ‘složka na živobytí’ component of the Czech Republic’s new consolidated welfare payment—nicknamed the ‘superdávka’—will again qualify for heavily discounted public-transport passes. The city scrapped its previous COVID-era fare relief on 30 September 2025 when dual social-benefit systems made eligibility verification almost impossible. Now that the national reforms have been fully rolled out, officials have created a fresh tariff category called “Osoby pobírající složku na živobytí dávky státní sociální pomoci – pouze na území hl. m. Prahy.” Beneficiaries will be able to purchase a monthly PID Lítačka coupon for CZK 165—70 % below the standard price—using an electronic certificate downloaded from the Labour Office’s client portal. Every member of a household listed on the certificate qualifies individually, but proof must be uploaded each month because the benefit is means-tested. The move restores Prague’s position as one of Europe’s most socially inclusive transport networks, a factor that multinational HR departments often highlight when benchmarking cost-of-living packages. For global mobility managers it lowers the mobility cost base for low-paid intra-company transferees and accompanying family members who may temporarily rely on state support while job-seeking. Employers are advised to update relocation handbooks and employee communications, especially for Ukrainian nationals transitioning from temporary protection status to the local labour market, many of whom fall under the new benefit rules.

To make the most of these new mobility benefits, foreign assignees still need to ensure their visa or residence paperwork is in order; VisaHQ’s Czech portal (https://www.visahq.com/czech-republic/) can simplify that step with online application tools and live support, freeing newcomers to focus on getting their discounted Lítačka rather than queuing at embassies.

The city stresses that the electronic process should minimise queuing at ticket counters—an important consideration for relocating families unfamiliar with Czech administration. The tariff change also signals Prague’s broader commitment to keeping public transport attractive despite rising energy costs. City councillors hinted that further fare innovations—including corporate bulk purchasing—are under study for 2027, creating additional opportunities for companies to offer mobility perks tax-efficiently.
