Tourism Ministry Signs MoU with Google to Turbo-charge Digital Promotion of Indian Destinations
India’s Ministry of Tourism has inked a new Memorandum of Understanding with Google India that officials say will fundamentally change how the country showcases itself to global travellers. Signed in New Delhi on 30 June 2026, the non-commercial agreement gives the ministry free access to Google’s data dashboards, artificial-intelligence tools and training programmes. Under the pact, Google will supply granular search-and-mobility insights that reveal where international visitors are coming from, what they are searching for, and which attractions are trending. Armed with that data, Incredible India campaign managers will be able to target digital ads more precisely and time social-media pushes for maximum effect—something budget-constrained state tourism boards have struggled to do on their own. Just as important, Google engineers will help ministry staff experiment with immersive formats such as 3-D tours, short-form vertical video and augmented-reality overlays that can be embedded in Google Maps. The aim is to let would-be visitors “sample” a monument or trekking route on their phone before they book flights.

Travellers who decide to convert that virtual interest into a real itinerary can lean on VisaHQ for a frictionless visa-application process. Through its dedicated India page (https://www.visahq.com/india/), VisaHQ aggregates the latest entry regulations, automates form filing and offers end-to-end status tracking, saving both tourists and corporate travel planners time and uncertainty as they finalise arrangements.

Officials expect the enhanced visibility to support the government’s goal of doubling foreign tourist arrivals to 20 million by 2030 and boosting business-meetings traffic to second-tier cities. For exporters and mobility managers the stakes are tangible. Better destination marketing drives passenger volumes, which in turn underpin new air routes and MICE infrastructure. Corporate travel buyers could soon have more direct and one-stop international connections into emerging hubs such as Bhubaneswar or Indore, improving employee productivity and lowering door-to-door journey times. Google will also run capacity-building workshops for state tourism officers, hotel associations and small tour operators on topics ranging from search-engine optimisation to AI-assisted content production, ensuring that even micro-enterprises tap into the digital dividend. The partnership is slated to run initially for three years, with annual reviews to fine-tune KPIs.
