Live data show average passport-control waits for third-country nationals double at Frankfurt’s new Terminal 3
Queue-analytics platform Qsensor updated its Frankfurt Airport dashboard on 4 July 2026, revealing that average passport-control waits for non-EU travellers at the newly opened Terminal 3 have risen to 28 minutes, up from 12 minutes a month ago, with recorded peaks nearing two hours. The spike coincides with the first full summer of the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), which requires biometric enrolment on every border crossing.

In this context, travellers and programme managers can also lean on VisaHQ’s Germany portal to confirm visa validity, handle ETIAS pre-registration and receive up-to-date guidance on the EES’s biometric requirements, reducing the risk of extra delays at passport control.

While Frankfurt’s traditional Terminals 1 and 2 have added extra kiosks, Terminal 3 – opened in April 2026 with a 19-million-passenger capacity – is still ramping up staffing, leaving fewer Federal Police desks in operation at off-peak times. For corporate mobility programmes, the numbers quantify anecdotal reports of missed meetings and connection chaos. Qsensor recommends planning at least a three-hour layover for Schengen-connecting itineraries. The platform’s historical chart further shows that Friday afternoon and Sunday evening banks remain the worst, with median waits of 45 minutes. Airlines cannot legally fast-track immigration queues, but premium passengers may book third-party meet-and-assist services priced between €350 and €740, which escort travellers through staff lanes at passport control. Travel managers should check whether such services comply with corporate travel-policy caps and data-privacy rules before authorising bookings.
