German Embassy Dakar updates Schengen visa guidance and notes EES now fully live
The German Embassy in Dakar quietly updated its Schengen short-stay visa page on 8 July 2026, adding detailed instructions for the new EU Entry/Exit System (EES) that became fully operational on 10 April 2026. Applicants are now informed that their first trip to Germany after visa issuance will trigger mandatory biometric registration at the external border and that overstays will be calculated automatically. Key changes include a requirement to book flights that arrive at designated biometric kiosks in Frankfurt, Munich or Berlin. Travellers transiting via Paris or Madrid must enrol at their first Schengen entry point, or risk being denied boarding at the connecting airport. The embassy also clarifies that children under 12 are exempt from fingerprints but will have their facial image captured. For German corporates recruiting talent from West Africa, the update is significant.

At this juncture, companies and individual travellers may find it easier to outsource the paperwork to a specialist. VisaHQ tracks German consular updates in real time, pre-screens documents against the EES checklist, and can help secure appointments and travel insurance certificates in one go—more information is available at

HR departments need to add EES briefing letters to assignment packages, warning that the 90/180-day rule will be enforced to the day. The embassy says it will no longer place courtesy entry-date annotations in passports because EES records actual crossings. The mission reports that online appointment scheduling, introduced last November, has cut average wait times from eight to four weeks. However, it stresses that incomplete applications will not be accepted: “Uploading a work contract after the interview is no longer possible.” That makes it critical for sponsoring companies to provide signed contracts and travel insurance certificates before the applicant’s slot. While the notice targets Senegal, it reflects a global template gradually being rolled out by German missions. Mobility managers should expect similar EES language to appear on other embassy websites over the summer.
