HK Express Cancels Taiwan & Ningbo Flights, Offers Free Rebooking as Bavi Nears
Budget carrier HK Express issued an urgent ‘Important Travel Notice’ at 17:00 HKT on July 9 and updated it overnight after confirming that all eight round-trip services between Hong Kong and Taipei, six between Hong Kong and Taichung, and four between Hong Kong and Kaohsiung scheduled for July 11 have been cancelled. In addition, flight UO226 to Ningbo was pushed back 24 hours to July 12. Affected customers may rebook to alternative flights or even change their destination within the same region at no extra cost, provided the new travel date is within 14 days. Full refunds are also available through an online service request form.

Travellers rerouting their journeys may also need to revisit visa or entry-permit requirements. VisaHQ’s Hong Kong portal can quickly confirm whether a new destination in the region demands additional paperwork and can process applications online, sparing corporate travel managers and individual passengers an extra administrative headache.

The airline’s customer-connect team extended its hotline hours and deployed extra Cantonese- and Mandarin-speaking agents to handle the surge in calls. For mobility planners, HK Express’s flexible policy is crucial because the carrier is widely used for short-haul staff shuttles to Taiwan’s technology hubs and to the Yangtze River Delta. Human-resources departments have been reminded to verify whether travellers booked through corporate self-booking tools have completed re-issuance of tickets; unused coupons will not be automatically revalidated. The carrier warned that further changes are possible if the Hong Kong Observatory escalates local storm signals. Passengers travelling on July 10–11 have been told to monitor inboxes and the flight-status page. Those whose flights are still operating are asked to arrive at the airport three hours before departure to clear peak-season security queues. Industry observers praised HK Express for publishing specific flight numbers and for embedding direct links to refund and rebooking portals—a best practice that larger network carriers do not always follow. The airline said it would publish its next update by 18:00 HKT on July 11.
