Macau and Guangdong motorists can book HKIA ‘Park & Visit’ slots from today
The cross-boundary self-drive ecosystem took another step forward on 16 July as the Hong Kong International Airport’s automated car park opened online booking for the new “Park & Visit” service. Private cars registered under Guangdong’s Southbound Travel Scheme—and, for the first time, Macau-plated vehicles—can now reserve spaces to park at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) Hong Kong Port before entering the city as regular visitors. Unlike the existing “Park & Fly” product, which is limited to air passengers transiting through HKIA, “Park & Visit” lets motorists leave their vehicles in the robotic facility for up to 72 hours and take public transport into urban districts. Daily quotas start at 200 vehicles and will double once operational data stabilise, according to the Transport and Logistics Bureau. For global-mobility managers, the scheme offers a convenient alternative to chauffeur services for mainland executives attending short meetings in Central or Quarry Bay. Employers should note that drivers must upload third-party Hong Kong insurance, hold a valid HZMB e-permit and complete Mainland customs declarations five days before travel. Failure to exit Hong Kong within the booked window attracts a HK$800 daily surcharge and possible blacklist under the Southbound Scheme’s points system. Macau’s government welcomed the inclusion, publishing guidance in Portuguese and Chinese for residents keen to shop and dine in Kowloon. Travel-retail analysts expect weekend parking slots to sell out within minutes, mirroring the “Park & Fly” experience during Golden Week. Tip: corporates should assign one coordinator to batch-book slots and monitor the system when the travel quota rises on 25 July, ensuring senior visitors secure guaranteed spaces during the pilot phase.
