
SJK Airport—the international gateway of São José dos Campos, 90 km east of São Paulo—announced on 19 July 2026 that LATAM Cargo will upgrade its Miami freighter service from twice to **four flights per week** starting 8 June. The route uses Boeing 767-300F aircraft, adding roughly 400 tonnes of additional weekly capacity for high-value exports such as aerospace components, electronics and pharmaceuticals. The change is more than a local logistics footnote. São José dos Campos hosts Embraer’s manufacturing base and a fast-growing cluster of semiconductor and satellite start-ups. Until now many firms trucked sensitive cargo to São Paulo’s congested GRU airport for intercontinental uplift, adding cost and risk. Direct Miami frequencies cut door-to-door times by up to 36 hours, enabling just-in-time inventory models that are crucial for Tier-1 suppliers. Cargo executives also highlight Miami’s role as a consolidation hub: from there, LATAM and partner carriers offer overnight connections to 20+ North American cities and onward links to Europe. The upgraded schedule therefore strengthens Brazil’s integration into global supply chains at a moment when nearshoring trends are pushing manufacturers to diversify sourcing away from Asia. For global-mobility professionals the benefit is indirect but tangible. Faster cargo lanes underpin the viability of expatriate technical assignments; engineering teams can now ship tooling and prototype parts without the double-handling that often stalls project timelines. The airport operator is already seeking ANVISA certification for temperature-controlled pharma storage, which would make SJK an option for life-science firms relocating staff and labs. The concessionaire, which has the third-longest runway in São Paulo state, says it will continue to modernise its cargo terminal and expand apron space. If volumes grow as projected, passenger charters—currently suspended—could return, offering new intra-Brazil options for business travellers commuting between high-tech hubs.
