Dubai’s General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) has issued a detailed explainer on the UAE’s little-known Events Visit Visa, a permit designed for overseas delegates attending conferences, trade shows, festivals and major sporting fixtures. Updated guidance, released on July 20, confirms that organisers can obtain pre-approved quotas for participants and sponsor single- or multiple-entry visas valid for 30 or 60 days, extendable up to a cumulative 120 days. Although the visa category was introduced last year, many corporates and event planners remained unsure how to use it. The GDRFA note spells out that only events cleared by a recognised government entity or licensed private organiser qualify, and that applicants must attach an official invitation letter. Crucially for multinationals, the multiple-entry option allows executives to leave and re-enter the UAE for side-meetings in neighbouring states without resetting the stay counter—an advantage over the standard single-entry tourist visa. The clarification arrives as Dubai positions itself to capture record MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) traffic in the run-up to Expo City’s 2027 World Energy Congress and dozens of tech summits scheduled for the new Dubai Exhibition Centre. In the first half of 2026, the emirate hosted more than 200 international events, drawing 1.4 million business visitors according to Dubai Tourism. Simplified visa pathways are viewed as essential to sustaining that momentum amid intense regional competition from Riyadh and Doha. For travel and HR managers, the announcement provides operational certainty: delegate lists can be submitted in bulk, sponsorship letters standardised, and accommodation blocks secured farther in advance. Companies should update visa-briefing packs for speakers and exhibitors, highlighting mandatory insurance, passport validity of six months and the option to convert the permit to a longer-term residency if required for project roll-outs. Agencies warn that processing times will spike 4-6 weeks before mega-events, making early submission critical.
