The Śląski Border Guard in Sosnowiec confirmed on 23 July the deportation of a 19-year-old Ukrainian national who had crashed a stolen vehicle into a private fence while intoxicated. Following a police request, SG issued an administrative expulsion order and escorted the individual to the border, banning him from re-entering Poland or any Schengen country for six years. Two accomplices, also Ukrainian citizens with multiple theft convictions, received five- and six-year bans respectively; one remains in a guarded detention centre pending travel-document issuance. Although individual in scale, the case illustrates Poland’s low tolerance for foreign residents who violate public-order laws – a factor corporate relocation teams must consider when onboarding young assignees or temporary workers. The incident also serves as a reminder that any serious criminal conduct can lead to long-term mobility restrictions that extend beyond Poland. Employers are advised to provide clear briefings on Polish alcohol limits (0.02 per cent BAC) and traffic laws during orientation sessions and to ensure that locally hired drivers hold valid EU-recognised licences.
