For British and other third-country business travellers, the update is more than formality. Anyone who has transited through the affected African states—even for a short lay-over—must now be prepared to show a detailed travel history on arrival in Canada. Asymptomatic foreign nationals may be denied boarding altogether, while Canadian citizens and permanent residents face mandatory 21-day quarantine if they cannot prove they have an adequate isolation plan. Companies routing staff to Canada through African hubs such as Addis Ababa or Nairobi should therefore check itineraries and, where possible, re-route via Europe or the Gulf to avoid inadvertent exposure to the policy. Firms with operations in the mining, energy and development sectors—many of which maintain dual Africa–Canada travel patterns—should update their duty-of-care protocols and brief travellers on possible delays at primary inspection. Public-health backdrop: Canada’s measures were adopted after the WHO confirmed community spread of the Sudan strain of Ebola in eastern DRC in late May. Although the risk to Canada remains low and no cases have been imported, Ottawa says the FIFA World Cup co-hosting role in summer 2026 requires a precautionary stance. The policy is slated for review by 29 August 2026 but can be extended. Practical tips: Travellers who have recently visited the listed countries and cannot delay their trip should carry proof of a negative PCR test, a detailed 21-day itinerary and a quarantine address. Airlines are already flagging PNRs that trigger the 21-day exposure window, and failure to disclose travel history can lead to fines or five-year entry bans.
