LOT Polish Airlines has given Poland’s business community another Scandinavian gateway by announcing twice-weekly Boeing 737-8 services between Warsaw Chopin Airport and Tromsø, Norway, starting 1 December 2026. Operating on Tuesdays and Saturdays (LO491/492), the new route will deliver a 3-hour-plus non-stop link to the Arctic Circle just in time for the peak Northern Lights season. Although Tromsø is primarily marketed as a leisure destination, the Norwegian city is also a regional hub for offshore energy, aquaculture and Arctic research. Norwegian-Polish trade has risen steadily in the past three years, with clean-tech and defence supply chains drawing on skilled labour and component manufacturers in Poland’s south-east. Direct flights cut journey times by four to five hours compared with current itineraries involving Oslo or Copenhagen connections, saving employers both money and employee duty-of-care nights away. LOT executives said the schedule is aligned with wave-banks at Warsaw, enabling same-day connections to Kraków, Rzeszów, Bucharest and Budapest on one end, and to Far-North airports such as Alta, Kirkenes and Longyearbyen on through-tickets sold in partnership with Widerøe. Corporate travel managers welcomed the move, noting that Tromsø’s growing conference market has struggled with seat availability since SAS trimmed winter capacity. From an expatriate-mobility perspective, the new service also supports the 1 000-plus Polish workers posted to Northern Norway’s construction sites each winter under EU Posted-Worker rules. LOT will offer 32 kg check-in allowances in Economy Class and a same-day cargo door-to-door product for urgent spare-parts shipments. Analysts say the launch underscores LOT’s strategy of using next-generation narrow-bodies to profitably serve “long-thin” niche markets of strategic economic value to Poland. If demand materialises, frequencies could double for the winter-sun period when Norwegians head south, further strengthening Warsaw’s role as a regional hub.
