Brussels South Charleroi Airport (BSCA) issued a press statement on 14 September warning of potential disruptions after air-traffic controllers at state provider Skeyes filed a fresh strike notice. The labour action, whose dates are still to be fixed, follows a series of stoppages earlier this year over staffing levels and roster flexibility. BSCA management said repeated walkouts place “particularly heavy pressure on the airport’s ecosystem,” jeopardising not only passenger journeys but also thousands of regional jobs linked to low-cost carriers and logistics operators based in Wallonia. Airlines will contact passengers directly once flight schedules are confirmed; the airport will post rolling updates online and on social media. For travel managers, the greatest risk is short-notice cancellations of Ryanair and Wizz Air services, which dominate Charleroi’s network. Contingency planning should include re-routing through Brussels Zaventem or Lille, as well as flexible hotel and ground-transport bookings. Strikes at Skeyes can spill over to en-route airspace, affecting overflights to and from neighbouring France and the Netherlands, so even travellers not using Charleroi could face knock-on delays.
