Final landscaping and systems tests are under way at Al Yalayis Station—Dubai’s inaugural stop on the Etihad Rail passenger network—before its public launch on September 30, The National revealed on September 14. The station will slash travel time between Dubai and Abu Dhabi’s Mohamed Bin Zayed City to just 57 minutes, down from up to 90 by car. Integrated via an elevated walkway to the existing Metro Red Line, Al Yalayis promises genuine door-to-door multimodal connectivity once Dubai’s planned Gold Line comes on-stream in 2032. Transport academics predict a surge in inter-emirate commuting, enabling professionals to live in one city and work in another without relying on the busy E11 highway. For global mobility teams, the rail link could reshape housing allowances and assignment costings. Property consultants quoted by the paper expect real-estate prices in Dubai South and Jumeirah Golf Estates—both near the station—to climb as accessibility improves. Companies may find it cost-effective to situate staff in peripheral districts while maintaining easy access to downtown offices. Etihad Rail inaugurated its first passenger service (Abu Dhabi–Fujairah) on June 30 and ultimately plans to connect all seven emirates with extensions to KSA and Oman. HR and relocation specialists should begin updating orientation materials, commuting stipends and emergency-evacuation routes to include the new rail mode.
