The Bieszczady Border Guard Division announced late on 14 September 2026 that the Medyka–Shehyni road crossing on the Polish-Ukrainian border will stop processing inbound buses from 00:00 on 20 September 2026 until November 2027 due to major reconstruction works. Outbound bus traffic to Ukraine and all passenger cars will continue, but travellers entering Poland by coach must divert to Korczowa, Hrebenne or Dorohusk. Medyka handles roughly 30 percent of organised coach services on the route between Lviv and Kraków, including popular low-cost lines used by seasonal workers and students. Operators estimate that rerouting via Korczowa will add 45 minutes to two hours depending on queue lengths, while Hrebenne lacks direct motorway access, complicating night-time schedules. The closure coincides with Poland’s peak autumn return of Ukrainian workers after summer leave. HR departments should alert employees of the change and allow extra transit time for assignment start dates. Bus companies are amending timetables and offering free re-booking, but some may impose surcharges to offset longer distances. On the upside, the PLN 420 million modernisation will add dedicated bus lanes, biometric booths and EES infrastructure, promising faster processing once works finish in 2027. Until then, frequent travellers may find rail services via Przemyśl to be the most reliable alternative.
