WestJet has expanded its loyalty programme, allowing members to earn WestJet points, tier-qualifying spend and day-of-travel benefits when booking Sunwing Vacations packages, effective 16 September 2026. Silver, Gold and Platinum members will receive free checked bags and priority services on Sunwing itineraries operated by WestJet aircraft. The change deepens integration following WestJet’s 2023 acquisition of Sunwing’s tour business and is designed to drive package sales during the upcoming winter peak. For globally mobile employees who combine personal holidays with business trips—a growing “bleisure” trend—the ability to accrue status on packaged leisure travel may influence carrier choice for subsequent work itineraries. Travel managers should note that points can also be redeemed against package costs, potentially lowering per-diem spend when employees tack vacation days onto work trips. Companies that reimburse employees based on actual costs may see lower claims, while organisations that prohibit points redemption for business travel will need to update policy language to reflect the new earning structure. WestJet says complimentary inflight Wi-Fi for all Rewards members remains in place, an increasingly important productivity tool for travellers expected to stay connected en route. The carrier is also encouraging members to link accounts with retail partners like Canadian Tire and Skip to accelerate status qualification ahead of 2027 programme changes.
