In its latest schedule filing, Air China confirmed that its flagship Beijing Capital–Vancouver route (CA991/992) will move from five to six weekly frequencies starting 2 January 2027. The boost, publicly logged on 18 September in network-analytics platform Voyarc, marks the carrier’s first capacity increase to Canada since China lifted pandemic-era flight caps last year. The service—operated with three-class Boeing 777-300ER aircraft—will add an additional mid-week rotation, bringing total weekly seat capacity on the route to roughly 2,400. Air China says the change responds to “solid corporate-travel recovery” in sectors ranging from agritech to film production, as well as strong winter-holiday VFR (visiting-friends-and-relatives) traffic. For mobility managers, the extra frequency eases a long-standing pinch point in securing premium-cabin inventory during peak convention periods in Western Canada. It also provides more connection options onward to Seattle, Calgary and Toronto under Air China’s codeshare with Air Canada, which recently won renewed Transport Canada approval. Travel buyers should, however, anticipate a temporary spike in fares as the additional flight opens for sale—historically, prices normalise once load factors stabilise. The move underscores a broader trend: Chinese carriers are cautiously restoring North American capacity despite bilateral traffic rights remaining below pre-trade-war levels. Industry data show that seat counts between China and the U.S./Canada have recovered to 68 percent of 2019 volumes. Analysts expect further adds once new Generation-X slots at Beijing Daxing become available in mid-2027. Corporate expatriate teams should update relocation calendars accordingly, especially for Chinese employees headed to British Columbia’s booming cleantech corridor, where January marks the start of many project cycles.
