The Brazilian Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) has approved Revision 04 of the Airport Security Programme for Maringá’s Sílvio Name Júnior Airport (SBMG), according to Portaria 19.926/SIA published in the Diário Oficial da União on 22 September. The measure upgrades the airport to security class AP-2, authorising it to handle both domestic and international general-aviation flights with aircraft seating more than 60 passengers. The move follows a R$ 45 million expansion of SBMG’s apron and passenger terminal completed in August. Local authorities hope the new status will attract corporate jets serving agribusiness hubs in western Paraná and stimulate cargo exports of poultry and soymeal to neighbouring Paraguay and Bolivia. For mobility managers, the biggest benefit is reduced reliance on Curitiba (CWB) and Londrina (LDB) for cross-border charters, potentially shaving three hours off ground transfers for executives visiting Maringá’s booming tech cluster. The upgraded security plan aligns with RBAC 107 and includes enhanced perimeter fencing, biometric staff access and a joint ANAC–Federal Police incident-response room. Airport operator Terminais Aéreos de Maringá now has 90 days to certify compliance with the new protocols or risk fines and operational limits. Private-aviation firms report brisk enquiries for slots during October’s International Coffee Congress, the first major event expected to use the new facilities.
